Stories of early season walleyes in the 13-14 pound range took us to Green Bay in March. We had been hearing about this fishery for years and decided to go check it out.

Our timing ended up being about a week too late, but we still managed to land 25 walleyes in two days of fishing. The fish all ranged from 18-24 inches. The majority of the fish were males, with a couple of spawned out females. Artificial baits out-fished the jig and minnow two to one, as the walleye seemed to key in on the larger baits.

The majority of the walleyes in Green Bay will come and stage in front of the river mouths before making their way upriver to spawn. The post spawn bite back out in the Bay in late April/early May can also be fantastic.

We will be back again next year to give the fishing another shot and will hopefully find that big 10 pound female on the end of our line.
